On Thursday’s Ellen show, the entire cast of the lovable Modern family appeared. Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez were reminiscing about the 10 seasons of the show running and how they all grew together through the years.
“You also taught Rico how to shave, and it didn’t go so well” Jesse joked. But, what attracted everyone’s attention was that they confirmed a significant character of the show will be killed off.
“We hear someone is getting killed off this season, that is correct?” Ellen DeGeneres asked the cast.
“Jesse,” Stonestreet said, pointing at his TV husband.
“No. Maybe? I don’t know,” Ferguson said. “I don’t know. We can’t say anything.”

Everybody had their own predictions and theories of who is it going to be, but when the show was aired on Wednesday, in the very first minutes, the episode fell flat.
The killed off character was Claire’s (Julie Bowen) and Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) mom and Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) ex-wife, DeDe Pritchett (Shelley Long). At the beginning of the episode, the family is about to find out that DeDe died in her sleep of a heart problem.

Even though DeDe is important to many of the significant character’s of the show, she wasn’t around as much for the fans to be connected to her character and see her as significant.
She will bring some major changes in the family’s life, but it is not as shocking as they announced it would be. It was kind of the safest choice they could make. I think everyone expected her to be killed off at some point.
Co-creator Steve Levitan’s comment was: “She’s directly involved with three of our characters and she touched everybody’s life in some interesting way. It seemed like the right character to put everybody through something. She seemed like the right character because she so directly affects so many of our characters.”
Nevertheless, we still love the show and we will continue watching it. We kind of are relieved that all of our favorite characters are still on our TV. What did you think of this weeks’ episode of Modern Family, were you shocked or disappointed?
